Running

Turn a race goal into clear pace, finish-time, and checkpoint math.

Race calculations convert a goal chosen by the runner into pace, projected finish time, and cumulative checkpoints. Distance units and rounding need to reconcile at the finish. These tools explain timing math; they do not prescribe training, assess health, predict performance, or decide whether a goal is safe or realistic.

Before you begin

Connect one goal to every displayed checkpoint

Begin with a race distance and either a finish time or pace that you selected. Pace describes time per unit of distance, while finish time describes the complete event. Cumulative checkpoints should be derived from the same total so each displayed split leads back to the chosen finish.

Read units and rounding correctly

Minutes per mile and minutes per kilometer describe the same plan in different units. A race may also end between whole miles or kilometers, so the final partial checkpoint is needed to reconcile exactly to the finish. Displayed pace values may be rounded even when the underlying total remains unchanged.

When the planner helps

Use the Race Pace & Split Planner to calculate pace, projected finish time, and cumulative checkpoints from your own inputs. It performs timing and unit-conversion math; it does not prescribe training, assess health, account for course conditions, predict performance, or decide whether a goal is appropriate.
